Inspiring People. Nurturing Landscapes. Bay Harbor Islands March 2026 Passive Parks 2 Proposed Scope: - Landscape Upgrades to the Passive Parks on the North and South park of Bay Harbor Island. - All Large Palms and Trees will remain. - Any bedding material and shrubs that are not doing well will be removed. - A new theme using new, accent plants and bedding material will be incorporated throughout both parks, creating a more upscale and inviting space to relax and enjoy the outdoors. 94th Street Park 103rd Street Park 3 Proposed Phases: - PHASE 1: Corrective pruning, thinning and dead wood removal to all Canopy Trees. - PHASE 2: Repair existing irrigation and adjust to allow proper coverage for the proposed new sod , new plant material layout, and new paver path. - PHASE 3: Paver Path Installation installed around the perimeter of each park. - PHASE 4: Sod Replacement. Existing sod has gradually died out and become very ‘weedy’. We recommend replacing all with the same sod, and more shade tolerant variety, due to the shade from the larger Canopy Trees. - PHASE 5: Installation of new bedding material. 4 Entrance Areas: - Each Park has several paver path entrances, these could be extended throughout the entire park to create a walking path. Rendering shown with both pavers and concrete. See photo example for concrete option. - The Liriope is doing well, portions should remain as a border. - Remove few Liriope from the center and add Radamachera to all entrance areas. - Fill in the Clusia hedge around the perimeter of the park. - Additional Option, to add a gate in front of each of the entrances. Before 94th St. Passive Park Landscape Upgrades: 5 94th St. Passive Park Landscape Upgrades: Canopy Tree Scope: - There are several large Canopy trees in the parks, with extensive, protruding root systems. In order to accentuate their beauty of the trees and lessen the likelihood of them being tripping hazards we propose to install low growing ground cover with accents of Birds Nest Anthurium around the roots. - Corrective pruning and dead wood removal should be done to all canopy trees. - Add hanging Spanish Moss to the tree branches. Park on 94 Street Before 6 94th St. Passive Park Landscape Upgrades: Scope: - Continue to fill in the outer perimeter hedge of Clusia. - Accent beds here include Decorative Banana, Heliconia, Green Island Ficus, Wart Fern and different varieties of Philodendron. - Many of the existing Philodendrons still looked good in this area and could be added to the existing. Before Park on 94 Street 7 103rd St. Passive Park Landscape Upgrades: Interior Landscape Beds: • Keep exterior Clusia hedge, few areas will need to be extended or filled in. • Remove interior Firebush hedge to gain back view of the landscape beds. • Add various accent beds throughout, shown here a grouping of Dioon, Imperialis and Sword Ferns. • Corrective pruning and dead wood removal should be done to all canopy trees. Park on 103 Street Before 8 103rd St. Park on 103 Street Before 9 103rd St. Passive Park Landscape Upgrades: Interior Landscape Beds: • Keep exterior Clusia hedge, few areas will need to be extended or filled in. • Remove interior Firebush hedge to gain back view of the landscape beds. • Where Firebush is being removed we propose to add a walking path around the perimeter of the park. • New Sod should be added throughout as well. • Add Black Mexican Beach Pebble to selected areas along the pathway. Park on 103 Street Before 10 Park Island Tips: - Firebush should be phased out throughout the park, some do not look their best and others have grown very tall, becoming too leggy at the bottom and blocking the view of most of the landscaping of the interior beds. - Remove leggy Crotons, add Green Island Ficus as a back hedge, add Tibouchina and Trailing Lantana for added color.
