WHEREAS, Margarita Faroy Batista (“Margarita Faroy”), born on June 20, 1931, left Cuba in 1961 seeking new opportunities and challenges and relocated to Miami, Florida, with her family, marking a significant chapter in her history by blending her rich Cuban heritage with the diverse cultural tapestry of their new home; and WHEREAS, it was in Miami where the seeds of the second generation's leadership were sown by Margarita Faroy and her husband, Abel Batista, who opened the doors to Casa Faroy Trophies in 1965, bringing fresh perspectives while honoring their roots and the tradition set by her parents, Emilio and Maria Faroy, who started Casa Faroy in Cuba back in 1926; and WHEREAS, today, her children, Ivette, Emilio, and Maria, and grandchildren, as a third generation, have joined the family business and continue to uphold the values instilled by Margarita Faroy; and WHEREAS, her love for the craft and community has been an integral part of the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County, with the crafts produced by the Faroy family offering passion and dedication to this community; and WHEREAS, Margarita Faroy's genuine love for what she did and created with her family drives them to serve the community with integrity and heart; and WHEREAS, Margarita Faroy always took immense pride in her last name, Faroy, a symbol of resilience, dedication, and unwavering commitment, with the journey from Havana to the United States, spanning nearly a century, being a testament to her family's hard work and adaptability; and WHEREAS, Margarita Faroy was deeply committed to community service, actively participating in various charitable activities and initiatives that benefited the residents of Miami and Miami-Dade County; and WHEREAS, Margarita Faroy's legacy of community service continues to inspire future generations to give back to their community and uphold the values of compassion, generosity, and civic responsibility;
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission hereby codesignates Northwest 23rd Court from Northwest 7th Street to Northwest 11th Street as "Margarita Faroy Way" in honor of her dedicated service and lasting impact on the community. Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a certified copy of this Resolution to the Departments of Police, Fire-Rescue, and Solid Waste; the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works; the Miami-Dade County Commissioner of District 5; the United States Postal Service; and, if a State of Florida road, to the Florida Department of Transportation, District Six, for sign installation within the newly designated roadway. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS:
