WHEREAS, Richard Herron has made significant contributions to the City of Miami (“City”) and the boating industry; and WHEREAS, Richard Herron served as the President of Norseman Shipbuilding Corporation, a key player in the local maritime industry, providing jobs and boosting the economy of Miami1; and WHEREAS, under his leadership, Norseman Shipbuilding Corporation became renowned for its high-quality shipbuilding and repair services, contributing to Miami’s reputation as a major hub for the boating industry; and WHEREAS, Richard Herron has been actively involved in various community initiatives, supporting local charities and fostering community development; and WHEREAS, Richard Herron has been recognized with several prestigious awards for his contributions, including the Maritime Industry Leadership Award and the Miami Business Excellence Award; and WHEREAS, Richard Herron has served on several important committees, including the Miami Maritime Advisory Committee and the Miami Economic Development Council, where he played a crucial role in shaping policies and initiatives that benefited the City’s economic growth and maritime industry; and WHEREAS, Richard Herron has supported numerous community initiatives, including the Miami River Cleanup Project, which has significantly improved the environmental health of the Miami River by removing debris, restoring natural habitats, and engaging the community in conservation efforts; and WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to honor Richard Herron by naming Northwest 5th Street between Northwest South River Drive and Northwest 10th Avenue as “Richard Herron Way”;
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission hereby co-designates Northwest 5th Street between Northwest South River Drive and Northwest 10th Avenue as “Richard Herron Way.” Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a certified copy of this Resolution to the Departments of Police, Fire-Rescue, and Solid Waste; the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works; the Miami-Dade County Commissioner of District 5; the United States Postal Service; and, if a State of Florida road, to the Florida Department of Transportation, District Six, for sign installation within the newly designated roadway. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS:
