If you need further assistance with an unknown message please contact gwilson@pinecrest-fl.gov   Good Morning,   The Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) is prepared for the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season which began on June 1st and concludes on November 30th.  We continue to maintain regular service delivery to more than 340,000 service area customers and provide disposal services to municipal and private waste haulers.   Our preparation efforts for the 2023 Hurricane Season will help to ensure that we are ready to provide debris removal using in-house and contracted haulers immediately after the storm and throughout the recovery period.  The DSWM will be prepared to provide debris removal to our Waste Collection Service Area customers following a hurricane as a part of its overall recovery efforts.  If you plan to use your own private contractors for debris removal services after a hurricane, please notify Stacey McDuffie by e-mail at Stacey.McDuffie-Brewster@miamidade.gov as soon as your hurricane recovery operations have been finalized.   The DSWM has posted information on its website requesting that service area communities with private roads complete the FEMA Right-of-Entry (ROE) Agreement and submit it to the DSWM as soon as possible.  Due to FEMA’s stringent guidelines on debris removal and reimbursement, the DSWM cannot deploy in-house or contracted debris haulers to remove debris from the right-of-way if the ROE form has not been signed and executed.   The DSWM has recently issued a hurricane season preparation news release reminding residents to prepare their homes before a storm threatens.  Service area residents were encouraged to initiate tree trimming, home cleanup projects, and other preparations prior to the official start of the season.  Additionally, the release reminds our household collection customers that they should not wait until severe weather to schedule tree trimming projects or schedule bulky waste pickups during tropical storms, Hurricane Watches or Hurricane Warnings.  To ensure worker safety, depending on the severity of the weather event, scheduled and new bulky requests may not be collected, and residents may have to secure their bulky waste or deliver it directly to a Neighborhood Trash and Recycling Center (TRC).  DSWM customers have the year-round option to take trash to any of the 13 TRCs.  When a weather event is imminent, residents are encouraged to use the TRCs for convenient trash disposal rather than placing trash at the curb.  Depending on the severity of the weather event, TRC hours of operation may be extended to facilitate trash delivery.    Miami-Dade has prepared and distributed the 2023 Hurricane Guide which has been mailed to every residential property address in the County. Included within the publication are tips and information on solid waste management that are helpful before, during, and after a hurricane.   If you have any questions about the DSWM’s storm season preparation or need information to assist your city as you prepare for the coming hurricane season, please contact Mrs. Stacey McDuffie-Brewster by e-mail or at 305-514-6040.   Stacey McDuffie-Brewster Intergovernmental & External Affairs, Division Chief Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management 2525 NW 62nd Street, 5th Floor Miami, FL 33147 (305) 514-6040 Office   www.miamidade.gov/dswm "Delivering Excellence Every Day"
