RESOLUTION NO. 2025- A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE OF PINECREST, FLORIDA, WAIVING FEES FOR MIGGY’S GIFT SKIN CANCER AWARENESS EVENT TO BE HELD AT EVELYN GREER PARK ON NOVEMBER 9, 2025; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF PINECREST, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the fees for the rental of facilities at Evelyn Greer Park for the Skin Cancer Awareness event, to be held on November 9, 2025, are hereby waived. Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 16th day of September, 2025. Joseph M. Corradino, Mayor Attest: ____________________________ Priscilla Torres, MMC Village Clerk Approved as to Form and Legal Sufficiency: ____________________________ Mitchell Bierman Village Attorney Consent Agenda DATE: TO: MEMORANDUM July 31, 2025 Yocelyn Galiano, ICMA-CM, Village Manager FROM: Robert C. Mattes, CPRE, CPSI, Parks and Recreation Director RE: Request for Approval to Co-Host Skin Cancer Awareness Event with Miggy’s Gift The Parks and Recreation Department respectfully requests approval to co-host a free, public community event in partnership with Miggy’s Gift, a Pinecrest-based nonprofit organization committed to raising awareness about the dangers of sun exposure and the importance of early detection of skin cancer. This event would be held at Evelyn Greer Park on November 9 and will offer residents educational opportunities through informative presentations and materials focused on melanoma prevention and the benefits of regular skin checks. As part of the event, Miggy’s Gift will also host a silent auction to raise funds supporting their awareness efforts, direct aid to families impacted by skin cancer, and scholarship programs for students at Miami Dade College. In support of this important mission, we are requesting approval to waive the standard facility rental fees. The event will be fully funded and coordinated by Miggy’s Gift, with the Parks and Recreation Department's contribution limited to providing facility space. No Village funds will be used to support the event. Given that Miggy’s Gift was founded by Pinecrest residents in memory of their son who passed away from melanoma, this collaboration directly aligns with our department’s commitment to community health, education, and support for meaningful local initiatives. By co-hosting, the Village has an opportunity to play a vital role in advancing life-saving awareness while honoring the impact of residents who are working to make a difference.
