RESOLUTION NO. 2023- A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE OF PINECREST, FLORIDA, REQUIRING THE PLANTING OF FLORIDA NATIVE PLANTS ON PUBLIC SPACES, PARKS, AND RIGHTS-OF-WAY; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, a Florida native landscape often requires little water, fertilizer, or pesticides; and WHEREAS, decreased use of fertilizer and pesticides is an integral component of Miami- Dade County’s Biscayne Bay Recovery Plan; and WHEREAS, there are many selections of Florida native plants available that work together and can provide the needed habitat to make a colorful haven for butterflies, birds, and other wildlife; and WHEREAS, the Village understands this initiative will enhance the community’s chances of building a healthy and beautiful community for all our citizens while preserving our natural heritage and improving water quality in the region; and WHEREAS, this initiative is in alignment with the Village’s adopted Strategic Master Plan;
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF PINECREST, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the Village Council hereby declares the planting of Florida native plants on public spaces, parks, and rights-of-way is required except where contrary to the efficient use of the public space or park, which will increase the visibility, enjoyment, and resilience of native Florida plants in the village while consuming less energy and environmentally harmful chemicals. Section 2. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 11th day of April, 2023. ____________________________ Joseph M.
