YÄÉÜ|wt à{|á EKà{ wtç Éy TÑÜ|Ä ECEF tÇw wÉ {xÜxuç xÇvÉâÜtzx tÄÄ v|à|éxÇá Éy à{x i|ÄÄtzx Éy c|ÇxvÜxáà àÉ }É|Ç Åx |Ç vxÄxuÜtà|Çz TÜuÉÜ Wtç tÇw áâÑÑÉÜà xyyÉÜàá àÉ ÑÜÉàxvà àÜxxáA ]ÉáxÑ{ `A VÉÜÜtw|ÇÉ `tçÉÜ Whereas, every day, more than 120 Americans are killed by gun violence and more than 200 are shot and wounded, with an average of more than 17,000 gun homicides every year; and Whereas, Americans are 26 times more likely to die by gun homicide than people in other high-income countries; and Whereas, support for the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens goes hand- in-hand with keeping guns away from people with dangerous histories; and Whereas, community leaders and law enforcement officers know their communities best, are the most familiar with local criminal activity and how to address it, and are best positioned to understand how to keep their citizens safe; and Whereas, to honor those Americans whose lives are cut short and the countless survivors who are injured by shootings every day; and Whereas, the idea was inspired by a group of students that wanted commemorate the life of a fellow student killed by gun violence - they chose the color orange because hunters wear it to announce themselves to other hunters when out in the woods and orange is a color that symbolizes the value of human life; and Whereas, anyone can join this campaign by pledging to wear orange on June 2nd, the first Friday in June in 2023, to help raise awareness about gun violence and survivors; and Whereas, we renew our commitment to reduce gun violence and pledge to do all we can to keep firearms out of the hands of people who should not have access to them, and encourage responsible gun ownership to help keep our families and communities safe.

Now, therefore, I, Joseph M. Corradino, Mayor of the Village of Pinecrest, Florida, on behalf of the Village Council and its citizens, do hereby proclaim Friday, June 2, 2023 as Gun Violence Awareness Day In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Village Clerk to affix the Seal of the Village of Pinecrest, Florida this 2nd day of June 2023 and do hereby encourage all citizens of the Village of Pinecrest to join me in wearing orange and joining the campaign to raise awareness about gun violence.
