MEETING MINUTES May 19, 2026, 9:15 a.m. Pinecrest Community Center / Pine Room 5855 Southwest 111 Street Pinecrest, FL 33156 I. Welcome and Introductions The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Greenberg at 9:20 a.m. Attendees of the meeting introduced themselves. Attendance: (SIGN-IN SHEET) II. Introduction – EAC Purpose and Process Nick Bresia of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) delivered a presentation on teen health and wellness. Topics covered included the Walk for Mental Health Awareness Program, the Ending the Silence for Families program, and an online mental health support group available for parents and children. A Q&A session followed at 9:42 a.m., during which attendees engaged in conversation around threat assessments and the range of mental health services schools can provide. Danny Alberty noted a collaboration opportunity between Pinecrest Parks & Recreation and local schools, centered around a community event on May 30th. Closing remarks followed at 9:51 a.m. III. Reports/Updates 1. Principals’ Updates: Multiple principals provided school updates. Palmetto Senior High School (10:25 a.m.) gave updates on student admissions into top 100 universities, upcoming PTA events, a teacher and staff appreciation raffle at the June 2nd lunch, and PTSA awards. Howard Drive Elementary provided a school report at 10:35 a.m. Palmetto Middle School provided a school report at 10:40 a.m. 2. School Board Report: Katie Abbott provided the School Board update at 10:22 a.m. 3. Region Report: None. 4. District Report: District representative provided updates on ongoing district initiatives and reported on monitoring of legislative developments from Tallahassee at 10:29 a.m. General public school remarks included recognition of Paul Ssaso for the Silver Knight Award, MDCPS student Gavin Linton for an academic scholarship and award, and the 2025-2026 Lazer family for the Family of the Year Certificate. 5. PTA Legislative Update: Senator Alexis Calatayud provided remarks on the state budget and its impact on Pinecrest at 9:52 a.m. Topics included the declining enrollment stabilization fund ($211 million) and $30.9 million allocated to early childhood education. A discussion of the State Senate PreK-12 Budget Sheet followed at 9:57 a.m. Senator Calatayud provided additional remarks at 10:13 a.m. 6. Village Council Report: Village Council remarks were provided at 10:52 a.m. 7. PTA/PTSA Reports: PTA report was provided at 10:48 a.m. 8. Library Updates: Library updates were provided at 10:14 a.m. and included highlights on Asian Heritage Month programming, the upcoming Summer Reading Campaign, and a Martial Arts Program. 9. Pinecrest Gardens Updates: Pinecrest Gardens provided updates at 9:24 a.m. on two upcoming summer camp offerings: a Toddler Camp and a Science-Based Camp. 10. Pinecrest Parks and Recreation Updates: Robert Mattes provided updates on summer programs and afternoon programs at 10:16 a.m. and noted the completion of the Coral Pine project. Danny Alberty highlighted a proposed collaboration opportunity between Parks & Recreation and local schools, centered around a community event scheduled for May 30th. 11.
