Whereas, every day, more than 120 Americans are killed by gun violence and more than 200 are shot and wounded, with an average of more than 18,000 gun homicides every year; and Whereas, Americans are 26 times more likely to die by gun homicide than people in other high-income countries; and Whereas, support for the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens goes hand- in-hand with keeping guns…

WHEREAS,every day, more than 120 Americans are killed by gun violence and more than 200 are shot and wounded, with an average of more than 18,000 gun homicides every year; and Whereas, Americans are 26 times more likely to die by gun homicide than people in other high-income countries; and Whereas, support for the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens goes hand- in-hand with keeping guns away from people with dangerous histories; and Whereas, community leaders and law enforcement officers know their communities best, are the most familiar with local criminal activity and how to address it, and are best positioned to understand how to keep their citizens safe; and Whereas, to honor those Americans whose lives are cut short and the countless survivors who are injured by shootings every day; and Whereas, the idea was inspired by a group of students that wanted commemorate the life of a fellow student killed by gun violence - they chose the color orange because hunters wear it to announce themselves to other hunters when out in the woods and orange is a color that symbolizes the value of human life; and Whereas, anyone can join this campaign by pledging to wear orange on June 7th, the first Friday in June in 2024, to help raise awareness about gun violence and survivors; and Whereas, we renew our commitment to reduce gun violence and pledge to do all we can to keep firearms out of the hands of people who should not have access to them, and encourage responsible gun ownership to help keep our families and communities safe.
Now, therefore, I, Joseph M. Corradino, Mayor of the Village of Pinecrest, Florida, on behalf of the Village Council and its citizens, do hereby proclaim Friday, June 7, 2024 as Gun Violence Awareness Day In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Village Clerk to affix the Seal of the Village of Pinecrest, Florida this 7th day of June 2024 and do hereby encourage all citizens of the Village of Pinecrest to join me in wearing orange and joining the campaign to raise awareness about gun violence. Joseph M. Corradino Mayor Whereas, Edison Cruz began his career with the Village, on the 3rd day of December, 2009; and Whereas, Edison Cruz has progressed through the ranks, advancing from Officer to Sergeant and ultimately to Captain; and Whereas, Edison Cruz has received numerous accolades during his career and is the commander of the Police Department’s Community Resource Team; and Whereas, Edison Cruz demonstrated exceptional kindness and compassion by assisting an elderly woman from Seattle who had fallen victim to online fraud and was stranded in our community with no resources; and Whereas, Edison Cruz consistently exceeds work demands and goes above and beyond in his commitment to the Village and its residents, demonstrating the true meaning of the Pinecrest way;
Now, therefore, I, Joseph M. Corradino, Mayor of the Village of Pinecrest, Florida, on behalf of the Village Council and its citizens, do hereby proclaim June 11, 2024 as Edison Cruz Day In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Village Clerk to affix the Seal of the Village of Pinecrest, Florida this 11th day of June, 2024 and do hereby encourage all citizens of the Village of Pinecrest to join me in expressing gratitude to Edison Cruz for his service and dedication to the Village of Pinecrest. _______________ Joseph M.
