Accept $20,000 donation for embossing machine and software at gardens

RESOLUTION NO. 2022- A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE OF PINECREST, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING A DONATION FROM TIM ABBOTT FOR FUNDS FOR EMBOSSING MACHINE AND THE ACCOMPANYING SOFTWARE AT PINECREST GARDENS PURSUANT TO RESOLUTION 2016-36; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF PINECREST, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the Village Council hereby accepts a donation from Tim Abbott, in the range of $18,000 - $20,000, for an embossing machine and the accompanying software at Pinecrest Gardens, pursuant to Resolution 2016-36. This year has been a year of new and exciting advancements for Pinecrest Gardens. We went through the first step of Museum Accreditation called MAPS, and finished in very good standing, knowing what next steps would be required for making accreditation possible. This achievement was followed up by winning a Stanley Smith Grant for Ornamental Horticulture. This grant was awarded to cover the cost of hiring of a part time person for the purpose of cataloging of our living collection. For the first time we will know every plant that grows at Pinecrest Gardens and it’s exact GPS location. We could never achieve museum status without this. Finally, in order to properly catalog and map our garden, the last step in the process would be the purchase of a tagging machine that embosses little metal plates with the genius and specie to be attached to plants. This equipment does not come without a lofty price tag. Through the generosity of our volunteer and friend, Tim Abbott and his love of this garden, he has offered to donate the embossing machine and the accompanying software to help us achieve our cataloging objectives.
