New Port Richey Republican Matthew Skeeter Abbott and Land O’ Lakes Democrat Wesley Hufford have filed to run for House District 55, potentially forcing Primary races for the open seat — although Hufford said he may drop out before week’s end.
The seat is open after Republican Kevin Steele filed to challenge Democratic U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor for Florida’s 14th Congressional District rather than seek re-election, a decision he made after recent redistricting carved out much of the district’s Democratic base.
