♻️ Miami-Dade launches compost pilot to turn food waste into soil
The Miami-Dade Department of Solid Waste Management has launched a composting pilot at the South Dade Landfill to explore new ways to turn food scraps and yard debris into nutrient-rich compost. The project, led by Fertile Earth Enterprises , uses a Covered Aerated Static Pile system that speeds up composting while reducing odors.
The pilot will process about 100 tons of organic material every ten weeks , helping advance the County’s Zero Waste goals . Compost will be tested by the Department of Environmental Resources Management to ensure it meets local safety standards.
