Children's Day and World Cup soccer bring joy to the world
The intention of Children’s Day is to honor children, to acknowledge the ways in which they add joy and delight to the world and to empower them.
When we were children, my brother, sister and I wondered why there was not a Children’s Day. What, with Mother’s Day in May, and Father’s Day in June, why not a Children’s Day? When we asked our parents, they said what I imagine many parents have said, what I repeated to my own children when they asked about a special day for children, “Every day is Children’s Day.”
Which is certainly not true, especially for so many children in the world who are living unhoused with war, hunger, poverty, abandonment, human trafficking, and more. …
