Florida pastor Willy Rice elected SBC president at annual gathering
The Southern Baptist Convention elected Florida pastor Willy Rice as its next president, delivering a victory to a faction that wants to pull the nation’s largest Protestant denomination further to the right.
Rice, defeating contender South Carolina pastor Joshua Powell, will assume the highest elected position within the Nashville-based SBC after its annual meeting in Orlando concludes on June 10. He succeeds North Carolina pastor Clint Pressley, who’s presided over the convention for the past two years.
