The 'laid-back' retirement era has ended. Just ask these busy grandparents
Among the 65 million grandparents in the United States, nearly half take care of their grandchildren at least once a month, a new AARP survey found.
Kasia Gay, 69, always thought her retirement would include a trailer home and cross-country adventures with her husband of more than 30 years.
But that dream died with her divorce, and now she spends her days picking up her grandchildren from school and doing her son's family's laundry. She's constantly at softball practices, swim meets and award ceremonies, and she said her grandkids typically spend one night per weekend with her and "get upset when I leave."
