Lake County joins Indiana Crime Guns Task Force; Porter, LaPorte next
"This partnership represents our continued commitment to reducing gun violence and holding offenders accountable," said Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr.
In total, 45,221 deaths in 2020 were gun-related, which is a 14% increase over the prior year and a 43% increase over a decade before. Overall, gun-related deaths constitute a majority of both homicides and suicides in the U.S.
CROWN POINT — Lake County officially has joined a multi-agency task force working to reduce violent crime and bring offenders to justice by tracing the firearms used by criminals in metropolitan areas throughout Indiana.
