At last, the magnum opus of the late Kathryn Belle Long bursts into song
After her death in 2023, the musicians who loved Kathryn Belle Long began producing her folk opera on vinyl, which will debut at a party on June 18.
Promises made are promises kept. And though Kathryn Belle Long , the locally adored singer/songwriter/guitarist/ and musical poet died over three years ago on May 23, 2023, her fellow musicians have now completed the project which they describe as Long’s “magnum opus” — “Voices: A Folk Opera,” a three-disc album and an eight-year effort of love.
Conceived by Long and written in collaboration with Mickey Abraham, her musical and partner-of-the-heart, the work is a soaring Broadway-like conception with nine soloists, a full chorus, and 10 musicians playing brass, strings, keyboard and organ.
