What investigation uncovered after casket, remains found in Tom Brown Park
A new report says the human remains city crews found in Tom Brown Park are likely linked to a historic Black family cemetery site.
Tucked into the woods of Tom Brown Park is a small, unassuming cemetery that marks the final resting place of a historic Black Tallahassee family. A city crew unearthed what historians believe to be more fragments of this family's history — a story that had nearly been lost.
On Jan. 23, the Parks and Recreation Department posted on Facebook that "while performing routine trail maintenance, a city crew was surprised when they discovered what appeared to be remnants of a casket and bone fragments in a wooded area back off the beaten path within Tom Brown Park."
