In 2020, as COVID-19 ground the global economy to a near halt, administrators from the Cushman School in Miami’s Upper Eastside were busy fielding calls from people who just moved in from other parts of the U.S., mainly the Northeast, and were desperate to enroll their children into the 101-year-old school.
“We have wonderful families who come here, and sadly, we had to turn them away. We’re at capacity,” Arvi Balseiro, Cushman’s head of school, told the Biscayne Times in the summer of 2020.
