A 74-year-old man convicted of killing his wife has become the oldest person to be executed in modern Florida times. Authorities say Dusty Ray Spencer received a lethal injection Thursday evening for the 1992 stabbing death of his wife Karen. It was Florida's ninth execution this year. Florida Corrections records dating to 1924 show the oldest inmates last executed in Florida were both 72. One of them, Samuel Lee Smithers, was put to death last year for two killings in 1996 while the other, R. Charlie Gifford, was executed in 1951 for a state lawmaker’s shooting death. …
