One of Sarasota County’s top local races effectively moved from November to August when qualifying closed this week, with Democrats falling off the ballot in County Commission District 2 and leaving the seat to be decided in a Republican Primary.
Democrat Andrew Bevan did not qualify, and the other Democrat to file, Robert Miller , who had filed June 10, withdrew — leaving Republican incumbent Mark Smith and his Primary opponent, Kristina Sargent , as the only qualified candidates for the seat. …
